The second workshop event took place on the 24th February at the Town Hall Ballroom.  The event provided excellent findings, despite a slightly dissapointing turnout. These findings will be made available on-line in due course.  Currently, you can access the presentation from the download section of the website.

Market Town Welcome

 

 

 

The Market Town Welcome project aims to help the town and its tourism businesses to develop a strong identity for Morpeth. The work will be co-ordinated by a select Leadership Group. This group, which will be convened specially for the project, will be co-ordinated by Greater Morpeth Development Trust, and will include representatives from the local council, the local tourism association, heritage groups and local tourism and retail businesses.
The first meeting of the leadership group took place on the 27th January 2009 and a press article about the event can be downloaded by clicking on this link. More information about the event will be available in the downloads section of the website.

 

The programme needs to incorporate the views of local businesses which deal with visitors. This includes not only accommodation and attractions, but also many shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes, etc. Business owners are in the best position to give a picture of current tourism issues and identify opportunities to develop the appeal of the town. They are also able to comment on visitors’ likes and dislikes and what will encourage visitors to stay longer or spend more.

There will be a prize draw for participants of the survey with the winner recieving a meal voucher to the value of £50 in a restaurant of your choice in the other market town currently going through the Market Town Welcome Process....Hexham.

Once the plans are developed, the Leadership Group will continue to meet to implement projects and to ensure that the Market Town Welcome plan achieves its full potential..
