Welcome

Market Town Welcome is a programme managed by Miller Research (UK) Ltd, which helps rural market towns to achieve their full potential as tourist destinations and to prioritise investment in improvements to their attractions and facilities.

The most recent towns to take part in the programme are Hexham and Morpeth, in Northumberland.  The project is being delivered in collaboration with Greater Morpeth Development Trust and Hexham Community Trust, supported by Northumberland Tourism and The Northumberland Strategic Partnership with funding from ONE North East.

The Business Survey's for Hexham and Morpeth are now live!

The Guisborough MTW Project, supported by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and the Guisborough Market Town Partnership and funded by One NorthEast, is nearing completion. Again, details can be found on the appropriate page opposite.

Historically the project has included partnership with Northumberland Strategic Partnership, Northumberland Tourism and County Durham Tourism Partnership (on behalf of Tourism Network North East).

The towns included in the first stage of the project were:
  • Berwick Upon-Tweed
  • Alnwick
  • Amble
  • Haltwhistle
  • Seahouses
  • Wooler

Each town has the potential to attract more visitors spending more money throughout the year, supporting more businesses and jobs.

In March 2008 each of these towns completed a destination plan which identified investment opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, and the public sector.

The strength of argument each town can make will determine how successful it is in attracting public sector investment and will also benefit the attraction of private investors.

Further updates will be posted on this site as the study develops and will provide you with a way of informing us of your opinions on how ‘visitor friendly’ your town is.
